SMV2 - SEQUENCE MASTER
SMV2 Overview
SMV2 Sequence master is an extremely versatile and powerful asset management tool for viewing and manipulating large amounts of file data. Namely sequences of images. Sequence Master has been developed by industry professionals who required a simple tool set that speeded up the production process by unifying vital but often repetitive tasks into one utility.
SMV2 Sequence Master provides the tools to facilitate the needs of the Digital artist who has to deal with hundreds and thousands of rendered files. At the moment finding, viewing manipulating and testing images is a time consuming and often stressful chore. Lots of time is wasted searching for a completed sequence and checking for missing files as all files of a sequence have to be viewed individually. Sequence master can display a sequence as a list or thumbnails and it can view files in any proprietary player as well as its integral viewer with audio support. The list can be sorted by date or size.
SMV2 Sequence Master can speed up many aspects of a production throughout the production pipeline, for example; Sequence master can be used to test for continuity of action in an animated sequence via a quick test edit or the user can test composited elements within Sequence Master itself before these assets are sent further down the production pipeline.
SMV2 Sequence Master provides individuals and companies with a simple intuitive resource that eliminates many common production problems and bottlenecks and in turn improves the efficiency, speed and profitability of a production.
Bottlenecks occur in the production pipeline because of the difficulty in viewing and finding frames, multiple file formats and incompatibility. Often users require various different software to accomplish simple but essential tasks. Tasks that currently require a number of differing software applications for renaming, reformatting, file conversions, compositing and editing are all available and unified within Sequence Master itself.
SMV2 Sequence Master alleviates the need for animators and producers to constantly have access to script based utilities and expensive compositing and editing software on all machines. It allows all production staff to preview and check images in a production pipeline with no specialist software knowledge. For example: A producer with no compositing experience can select a Tiff sequence and easily convert it to an AVI to send to a client at four in the morning …
Viewing - Checking and modifying rendered assets and image sequences
Play
Play a sequence of images instantly by clicking on the sequence. No need to open another application or choose from a list then trawl around hundreds of files to find the one needed.
Play a sequence in any player as well as Sequence Masters own internal player which supports all major file formats as well as viewing 16:9 anamorphic renders correctly.
Copy sequences to new locations on a network
Sequences can be copied and moved easily around a network by simply dragging a sequence into a new location within Sequence Master.
Manipulate sequences
Renaming, renumbering, reformatting and joining sequences for test edits and composites are all essential production processes that sequence master can accomplish with aplomb. These tools simplify and speed up the workflow for professional digital artists by creating efficient work practice and eliminating the need for lots of expensive resources.
Test comp
The ability to assemble and check composites easily and without resorting to other editing and compositing software is a real boon when working on a network of computers with differing software configurations. Animators and producers can immediately check rendered elements for the compositors by simply selecting the rendered sequences in the required order then click on comp and Sequence Master assembles them for assessment using their respective alpha channels.
Test edit and create image planes
Animators and producers, directors can assemble a rough cutting copy from multiple shots via the same workflow. Select sequences, shift click select then the edit button. Or select sequences click Maya launch and Maya creates a new scene with image planes pre-loaded. (Does not exist but I have a script which could be launched …maybe )
Save as file format conversion
Sequence Master can then ‘Save as’ so that any sequence of composites or edits can be output in any file format the user desires from Tiffs to Targas to Avi’s for easy distribution to clients via the web or internally.
Resize sequences
Resizing sequences becomes simplicity itself. Select the sequence and resize to any aspect ratio you’re production requires then save in your chosen format. Sequence Master also has a useful feature to display 16:9 anamorphic renders correctly in its own view and play window.
Production
Sequence Master is production proven and its intuitive design has meant many innovative solutions for the digital production producer and supervisor.
Bookmarks
Access multiple and different file directories instantly via the unique colour coded bookmark feature. These bookmarks can be saved to disk allowing other animators and producers to load them into Sequence Master and exchange project information around a team immediately. All source directories for a particular project can be distributed transparently and efficiently and can easily be backed up and restored as and when needed .
Rendering
Monitor multiple renders instantly by switching list view to graph view which immediately illustrates render progress at a glance by monitoring file sizes and displaying these as a graph. This is invaluable when used with the expected frame range which provides instant data about render times. Disk space is displayed as memory as well as amount of frames the disk can hold depending on size and format.
Sequence Master lists missing and incomplete frames. Sequence Master can then create a render script to start a render of missing frames within Maya or dispatch this info to Smedge or Alfred. (slight exaggeration…)
Easy to use
Sequence Master is designed to have no learning curve. All functionality resides in a menu selected over the listed sequence itself. No need to start software and trawl around for its functionality. Sequence Master is immediately available for the function the user wants. Imagine being able to open Sequence Master, grab one line of information - the sequence, then play, rename, move, reformat resize etc all from one inexpensive application. Fantastic.
